|Sad death of John Nike OBE 29 December, 2016|
Cllr Ian Leake has issed the following press release about the death of John Nike, OBE
Issued by Cllr Ian Leake, Chairman of Binfield Parish Council and Bracknell Forest Borough Councillor for Binfield and Warfield ward.
Binfield Parish Council is saddened to hear of the death of John Nike OBE on Christmas Day. Our first thoughts are for his wife Sue, and his family: to them we extend our heartfelt and sincere condolences. I ask that we remember him and his family in our prayers.
John was a long time resident of Binfield and his contribution to our community has been outstanding. His support of our local societies and clubs, particularly those of benefit to the younger generation, will leave a long and lasting legacy.
There will be much written in the coming days about his business acumen, his commercial contribution to our borough, his charity work and work for Berkshire in his role as Deputy Lieutenant, all of which will be fully justified. But the time to reflect on that will be later: we in Binfield will remember him as someone who has enhanced our community and made the place we live richer by his presence.
On a more personal note, I am deeply saddened by his passing. I have known John for many years and have often valued his thoughtful guidance and advice.
